When we try to understand suffering without a gospel mindset like this, we end up with shallow platitudes, dismissive, or with a version of faith that cannot withstand any pressure. Paul’s relationship to suffering is that suffering has a purpose bigger than you. Suffering has purpose, but also has limits that God will not give you more than God will sustain you through.
